Oregon Trail

CS 2340 · Object-Oriented Design

You lead a small party west across the US in search of a better life. You choose your profession, the pace, what to do at obstacles and what to buy in towns, and every choice decides whether you make it. We gave it a nicer interface than the original, renamed the towns and added new events.

Four of us built it as the final project for Object-Oriented Design, where the assignment was to recreate the original Oregon Trail in Smalltalk. Smalltalk is purely object-oriented, and its learning curve was an obstacle of its own. The IDE has a window builder, but we built every window from scratch, and our project was named the best-looking in the class.
